What software is provided on NetSight?
Sherlock, our Windows®-based integrated software environment is shipped standard with NetSight. Additionally, NetSight is shipped with Camera Configurator and the MVTools libraries. These libraries enable NetSight users such as OEMs and Systems Integrators to build powerful customized applications.

How does one develop applications for NetSight?
Applications can be developed directly on the unit. For non-programmers or users looking for quick time-to-market, applications can be developed using our point and click Sherlock interface. For advanced users who wish to develop applications using our MVTools libraries, it is necessary to install the MVTools SDK prior to beginning development. There is a one-time charge for this product that can be installed across multiple NetSights (a runtime license is preinstalled on every unit).

How do you communicate with a NetSight?
NetSight offers an ethernet port and two serial ports (RS-232) which can be used by applications to communicate with other NetSights or to servers and other PCs. Standard TCP/IP Win32 socket API can be used to communicate over Ethernet. ipd provides sample code to show their use for vision applications.

What kind of network infrastructure or corporate network is needed to fully utilize NetSight?
NetSight can be plugged into any existing corporate Ethernet. It requests a Dynamic IP addressing on the network, and if a server on the network accepts this request, it becomes part of the network and ready for use. The server on the network must support DHCP and DNS. It does not have to be an NT server.

What is DHCP? Does NetSight use Static IP addressing or Dynamic IP addressing?
DHCP is Dynamic Host Control Protocol. In this protocol the IP addresses to all the network nodes are assigned by the DHCP server as compared to Static IP addressing where nodes make a request with a fixed IP address allocated by network administrator. NetSight is pre-configured for DHCP enabled, so a server must allocate an IP address to it. If a fixed IP address is needed for the NetSight, the network administrator can reserve a specific IP address corresponding to the NIC address of NetSight in its DHCP server.
